About Us

Kiwi's New Life Bird Rescue is a non-profit,DGR registered animal welfare charity, dedicated to helping domestic birds in need.

Who is Kiwi?

While our name might imply that we are in New Zealand, the bird rescue is actually located in Victoria, Australia.  We are named after a lorikeet called Kiwi.

Kiwi is a tame rainbow lorikeet, that is owned by the rescue's founders.  Kiwi is the inspiration for what has become the main domestic bird rescue in the state.

Always curious and friendly, Kiwi happens to have that demanding nature that we all know and have come to expect from lorikeets.  She has been the voice for the voiceless birds and has driven her owners to a quest to make sure there is a voice for parrots in need.

Kiwi is still with us, ruling over all her friends and pooping on everyone and everything else!

What Is Kiwi's New Life Bird Rescue?

A charity helping birds who are abandoned, abused, neglected, or lost and found.

We started volunteer work with a wildlife rescue back in 2016 and soon realised that domestic birds had a bit of a disadvantage. There were no well established domestic bird rescues in Victoria at the time. Domestic birds in need were being handed in to wildlife rescues that lacked processes to manage them and support their adoption into new families. We wanted more for these beautiful souls who had no one to truly advocate for them.

In 2019, we registered as a not-for-profit domestic bird rescue, and we continue to this day to provide the best care possible for birds by having them screened for disease and vet checked.  We ensure all their medical needs are addressed and transition them to optimal healthy diets.  All potential new families are vetted through a stringent process to ensure they will provide the best homes possible.
