Pelican and Seabird Rescue Inc. (PASR) is committed to the rescue and rehabilitation of injured, sick and orphaned birds. We are a non-profit, volunteer organisation operating under guidelines set out in our constitution, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Code of Practice and our Ecoaccess permit.
PASR is totally reliant on income from donations, fundraising, grants, membership and sponsorship from public and private sectors to continue its community service. Some of our ongoing costs include:
Our team offers a 24 hour 7 day a week service that responds immediately to calls for help from the general public, RSPCA, government departments and agencies, private organisations and many of the volunteer wildlife organisations e.g. Redlands Wildlife Carer Network, Brisbane Area Rescue Network (BARN) and Wildcare, to mention a few.
Our area of expertise is the rescue and rehabilitation of pelicans, aquatic and seabirds, and the rescue of all species of injured flighted birds. Our team is professionally trained on the rescue of flighted birds as it’s a common occurrence for a bird to sustain an injury and still have the ability to fly.
Once a bird is rescued, the PASR team assess and treat injuries on the spot. In some instances a ‘clean and release’ is achieved but where the bird has a more serious injury they are taken to one of our preferred vets or Australia Wildlife Hospital – Beerwah for intensive medical attention. In most of these instances the bird will require time to recover and is discharged from the Hospital and rehabilitated at our Pelican and Seabird Rescue Inc Rehabilitation Facility until they are fit to be released to their natural habitat.
The PASR team is very passionate about protecting the well-being of our precious wildlife and their respective environments, as the plight of our wildlife is becoming more uncertain as the South East Queensland region continues to grow. It is the very thing that people move here to see that is most affected.
