Here’s a list of useful Wildlife Organisations:
Brisbane Area Rescue Network, or BARN, is a non-profit wildlife care organisation dedicated to returning injured or orphaned native wildlife in optimum condition back to its natural environment. Established in 2006, we have grown to well over 100 members, and annually we treat over 2000 injured/orphaned birds, and almost 1000 injured/orphaned possums, as well as kangaroos, bandicoots, snakes, lizards, turtles and many more animals.
BLEATS first began in October 2007 and the response has been overwhelming form the legal profession and the public alike. We now have over 160 solicitors and barristers including 3 Senior Counsel and 1 Queens Counsel on the panel and 80 admin/support people of varied backgrounds offering their help. We have also had a large number of offers to assist since the ‘Justice for Animals’ launch in May 2009, this campaign raised over $450,000 for the RSPCA. People from all over the world have signed the petition indicating their desire to see an increase in penalties and we are pleased to say BLEATS has had much success and we are seeing an increase in penalties for people accused of animal cruelty and neglect. There is still much more to be done and we are on to it!
The Koala Action Group is a community group working locally to help koalas in our unique Redland’s environment. The activities we undertake include: tree planting for wildlife, propagating local native trees, stalls and displays, field days and tree identification, advice on making properties wildlife friendly, monitoring developments and annual phone-in survey. Members receive a bi-monthly newsletter with the latest information about koalas and other environmental topics. Please help save Redland’s wildlife.
