We can't change the whole world but we can change a bird's world.

The intellect and emotional intelligence of birds is frequently underestimated.  Birds deserve all the love and care that we can give them.

What We Do...

The rescue has multiple functions.  The main ones are listed below:

  • Surrenders.  We take in domestic birds that are in significant need.  These are usually, abandoned, abused, neglected, unclaimed lost and found or suddenly homeless birds (e.g. if an owner has passed away).
  • Adoptions.  Adoptions free up space, for more birds in need.  Every bird deserves a home and we do our best to find the right fit for every bird.
  • Lost and Found.  A lot of lost and found birds find their way to us.  We provide a safehaven while we seek to find their owners.  Proof of ownership is required.
  • Public education. We take every opportunity to provide husbandry and other bird care information to the public.   Our annual bird expo continues to grow we run or attend many other events throughout the year.

What We Don't Do...

There is one big myth about surrendering birds to a rescue.  We're not sure why, but many people believe that surrendering a bird to a rescue is giving them some sort of permanent sanctuary style life and that their bird will be better off.  There is no such rescue in existence, nor would most pet birds cope with such a life.  Our goal is to rehome the birds that come to us.

We do not take on birds permanently for some sort of idyllic sanctuary life.

We receive requests to take on birds on a daily basis.  There is no way that we can take every bird that someone wants to rehome, so the birds that come to us need to be genuinely in significant need.

If you are looking to surrender your bird when you are capable of rehoming the bird yourself, we ask that you find your bird a new home rather than surrender.  In most cases, the original owner should be familiar with their own bird's needs and be able to advertise their birds themseves.

As you can imagine, the shelter is frequently overwhelmed with birds in need and it is hard to turn birds away.  Please do not add to the burden if you can avoid doing so.

ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS!

You can never have too much help.  The rescue relies heavily on volunteers.  Volunteers assist in numerous ways, from cleaning, food preparation, cage maintenance and socialising with our birds.  The rescue wouldn't be able to function without volunteer assistance.

100%

of donated funds goes towards the rescue and the birds in its care.  We are proudly non-profit and DGR regsistered.

Over 550 birds rescued

since the rescue started in 2019

Donations are now tax deductible.

Many of the birds we take require a lot of specialist veterinarian treatment

While the avian vets work with us at a discounted rate, the sheer volume of birds that come through the rescue means that we run up significant vet bills.

Every bird that comes through the rescue receives a vet check and appropriate disease screening.  Often birds require blood to be taken, Xrays, broken bones to be set and even surgery.  Any help you can give us is greatly appreciated and allows us to help and treat more birds.
